Ukraine's Battle Against Illegal Arms Trafficking
According to TSN.ua: In 2025, Ukrainian law enforcement agencies prevented close to a thousand attempts to sell weapons on the black market. All individuals involved were identified and held accountable through targeted police operations. As of 2026, 282 separate cases of illegal arms trading have already been recorded, showing that the country's struggle with illicit weapon circulation is far from over.
Seized Arsenal and Legal Consequences
During these operations, authorities confiscated a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition, including:
- nearly 13,000 rounds of ammunition
- two under-barrel grenade launchers
- 36 grenades
- 11 automatic firearms
- 14 pistols
- 15 rifles
- five revolvers
- TNT explosives
- silencers
- ammunition manufacturing equipment
Additionally, cash equivalent to nearly 900,000 Ukrainian hryvnias was discovered and seized.
The ringleader and five accomplices have been formally charged with the illegal sale of weapons as part of a premeditated criminal conspiracy. All suspects are currently in custody and face up to seven years in prison. This update was provided by Andriy Nebytov, Deputy Head of the National Police of Ukraine.
Currently, over 18,000 firearms are legally registered in Ukraine, the majority of which are automatic weapons. This reality underscores the critical importance of police efforts to combat illegal arms trafficking and ensure public safety.
