Training Tragedy at the 'Skelya' Regiment

According to Novyny.live: The 'Skelya' Regiment has confirmed the deaths of 25 new recruits during training exercises, as the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) probes numerous non-combat fatalities, including those linked to alleged abuse and torture. While regiment officers dispute some accusations, citing incomplete incident reports, the DBR and a General Staff commission are actively examining the circumstances surrounding these deaths. Notably, the regiment initially reported 26 deaths, but later clarified that one individual could not be located among those listed by Andriy Suray, who originally raised the alarm.

Investigators are working to verify each case, with the regiment now confirming 25 fatalities instead of the 26 Suray had claimed. Suray stated, 'Of those 26 people mentioned as having died during combat training, we simply couldn't find one of them.' This discrepancy, according to regiment representatives, is critical for establishing the truth.

Inspections and Ongoing Investigations

Claims that 2,000 drug addicts were serving in the unit have been dismissed as unfounded. Meanwhile, military unit 4862 is conducting its own internal review of the recruit deaths. An error in the initial investigation was identified regarding soldier Vyacheslav Borisov, who was not associated with the 'Skelya' Regiment.

To avoid interfering with the probe, regiment commander Yuriy Harkavyi has been suspended from duty. The criminal investigation continues, and according to Tetiana Kozachenko,

“to establish the truth, law enforcement will have to exhume the bodies of the deceased soldiers.”
The situation surrounding the death of recruits in the 'Skelya' Regiment remains tense and demands further inquiry.

This tragedy highlights serious flaws in the military training system and underscores the need for proper oversight to ensure soldier safety. The commander's suspension and the active investigation signal authorities' intent to uncover the circumstances behind these recruit deaths and prevent future occurrences. The case demands attention not only from law enforcement but also from the public, which has a right to know about service conditions in the army and the protection of its military personnel.
