Over 10 thousand prisoners mobilized to the Armed Forces of Ukraine: who cannot join the army.
According to inkorr.com: More than 10 thousand people who were in prisons have been mobilized for service in the Defense Forces. This information was published by the Ministry of Justice, as reported by NV.
Mobilization Conditions
Convicts who can be released early for service under contract during mobilization or martial law have received this opportunity. However, not all of them will be able to take advantage of it, including persons who have committed serious crimes or corruption-related offenses.
In particular, individuals convicted of serious crimes, such as intentional murder of two or more persons or for particularly serious corruption offenses, cannot join the ranks of the Defense Forces.
Legislative Changes
The President of Ukraine signed a law on the mobilization of convicts in May 2024. This law allows the engagement of individuals who have served sentences for less serious crimes in military service.
The mobilization of prisoners is aimed at strengthening Ukraine's defense capability, as the country can enhance its defense forces by involving those who have already paid their debt to society for less serious violations. This step could be crucial in the fight for Ukraine's independence and security against increasing challenges.
