Margate to receive £22 million upgrade: what changes will occur in the resort town.
Updates in Margate
According to The Sun: Margate, one of the trendiest towns on the British coast, is preparing for a major upgrade costing £22 million.
TDCThe town will soon have new tourist areas with cafes and shopping areas near Walpole Bay.
GettyTwo new tourist attractions are also planned for Walpole Bay. This quieter beach often goes unnoticed by tourists who prefer the main Margate beach.
New cafe and cultural quarter
A new cafe will appear at Walpole Bay along with a public space, and facilities will be provided for toilets and showers.
The project also includes the restoration of the town's funicular, which was closed back in the 1970s.
Additionally, there are plans to create a new 'creative quarter' to take the place of the old St. George's garage, with a budget of about £6.7 million. This initiative will be carried out by the 'Margate Creative Land Trust', transforming Harold Road in Cliftonville.
All these initiatives are part of the 'Margate Town Deal', confirmed by the local council in 2021.
Plans for Winter Gardens and other updates
The popular concert venue Winter Gardens is also set for restoration with an £11 million budget. The project involves a new rooftop bar and restaurant, as well as drama schools and nurseries.
In addition to Margate, other coastal towns in Britain are receiving significant upgrades. For example, in Folkestone, the funicular is being restored and is expected to reopen next year after a major renovation.

The upgrade in Margate will not only improve infrastructure but also create new opportunities for the tourist business. It is expected that the new facilities will attract more visitors and give a boost to the city's development. Over time, efforts have been made to achieve a balance between traditional atmosphere and new projects. Read also
