To celebrate the opening of the new base, Ryanair has started a three-day ticket sale with prices starting from 21.99 euros (19.20 pounds sterling).

Overview of the Cities of Trapani and Marsala

The airport is located between two cities in Sicily – Trapani and Marsala. Trapani is located to the north, about 20 km from the airport, while Marsala is to the south, 14 km away.

Trapani is a picturesque city on the western coast of Sicily that offers many opportunities for exploration. For history enthusiasts, there are many quiet streets with Baroque palaces and churches featuring unforgettable architecture.

The south of Trapani is famous for its history, and its long promenade allows visitors to enjoy views of the crystal-clear Sicilian sea.

Make sure to visit the ruins of Torre di Ligny, built to protect the city. For those seeking something unusual, a trip to the pink salt pans known as Riserva Naturale Orientata delle Saline di Trapani e Paceco is recommended, where you can see migratory birds.

Culinary Delights and Attractive Leisure Options

Trapani features excellent seafood restaurants where you can try traditional dishes, such as couscous alla Trapanese, prepared in a delicious seafood broth. One of the most popular establishments, highly rated on TripAdvisor, is Al Vicoletto, known for its cozy atmosphere and reasonable prices.

Prices for dishes here start at around 15 euros (13.09 pounds sterling). Not long ago, one visitor noted: “This exceeds all expectations; we have been coming to Trapani for several years and have missed this gastronomic gem.”

The city also offers plenty of accommodation options, including beach apartments starting from £52 per night. Marsala, another historical city, is also worth a visit, especially for wine lovers with many tasting opportunities.

Among other interesting locations, it is worth visiting the Stagnone Lagoon reservoir, where numerous salt pans and windmills are located.

Ryanair Investments

The investment in the new base, which will amount to £148.8 million, became possible due to the decision of the Sicilian government to abolish municipal taxes at smaller airports. Ryanair supported this decision and called on other local authorities to consider tax reductions at larger airports, such as Palermo and Catania.

If this happens, the airline believes it could lead to a significant increase in passenger numbers, new aircraft, and thousands of new jobs.

Getty The opening of the new Ryanair base in Trapani-Marsala highlights the active development of the region and the company's desire to expand its presence in the Italian market. This will be an important step in improving travel accessibility to Sicily and boosting the local economy, particularly in the tourism sector. With new flights and tax reductions, local businesses will have greater opportunities for growth.
