Ex-head of Soviet Pravda fell from window: what is known about the death.
The death of Vyacheslav Leontyev
According to The Sun: The list of known deaths in Russia has been replenished — this time Vyacheslav Leontyev, 87-year-old head of the publication 'Pravda', who once controlled one of the loudest propaganda voices of the Kremlin, has died.
The man fell from the balcony of his Moscow apartment from a height of 21 meters.
East2WestThe police are investigating the circumstances of his death to determine whether it was the result of an accident, suicide, or crime.
Leontyev was not an ordinary Soviet figure.
For many years he led 'Pravda', the Communist Party's publication and one of the most influential media structures in the USSR.
Even after the collapse of the Soviet Union, he remained in his position, believing he knew where many billions of the party were hidden.
Emigrating journalist Andrei Malgin called this 'yet another strange death', noting: 'Windows continue to fall... Leontyev fell from a window.'
Malgin, who knew Leontyev, added: 'He gave the impression of something like an underground millionaire… He knew a lot about the party's money — the publication 'Pravda' was the most profitable enterprise of the CPSU Central Committee's business empire.'
According to unconfirmed reports, Leontyev had health problems.
Suspicious death cases among the Russian elite
His fall fits into a worrying trend of deaths among Russian elites — since the beginning of Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine, the number of fatalities has increased.
Last month, the body of former transport chief of St. Petersburg Alexander Fedotov was found near the five-star Skypoint Luxe hotel at Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow.
He was staying at the hotel on a business trip. A criminal investigation is underway, and reports claim that no suicide note was found.
Fedotov was associated with Putin's transport minister Roman Starovoyt, whose murder in July, officially ruled a suicide, raises numerous questions due to reports that he was 'tortured' before 'the murder.'
Among many suspicious death cases is also oligarch from 'Lukoil' Ravil Maganov, who fell from the window of an elite Central Clinical Hospital in Moscow in September 2022.

In March 2024, deputy president of 'Lukoil' Vitaly Robertus, 53, was found hanged in the restroom of his office.
Separately, Pavel Antonov, a 65-year-old Russian oligarch and politician, fell from a hotel window in India in December 2022.
Marina Yankina, a 58-year-old official in the defense department, died in February 2023 after falling from a height of 49 meters in St. Petersburg.
Former vice president of the oil company Mikhail Rogachev, 64, died after falling from the tenth floor of his Moscow apartment in October 2024.
He was a senior manager at 'Yukos', an oil company destroyed by Putin and his associates.
In July of this year, vice president of 'Transneft' Andrei Badalov, 62, fell from an elite building on Moscow's Rublyovskoye Highway.
