Putin on negotiations with Trump: Russia agreed to compromises regarding Ukraine.
According to ТСН: Russia "highly appreciates the serious efforts" of US President Donald Trump to end the war in Ukraine. This was stated by the Russian dictator during the annual press conference "Year-End Results with Vladimir Putin".
He emphasized:
"As I have said repeatedly, I think he is doing this absolutely sincerely".
Putin also reported that during negotiations with Trump, which took place in August in Alaska, Russia was asked to agree to "some compromises". According to him, Moscow "generally agreed to them", although he did not specify the details.
The dictator noted:
"To say that we reject something is inappropriate and baseless".
He added that it is "absolutely untrue" to believe that Russia rejects any proposals within the framework of a peace agreement, noting that "proposals were made to us" during the first meetings in Moscow.
Putin clarified:
"When I arrived in Anchorage, I said that these would be difficult decisions for us, but we agree to the suggested compromises".
We remind that Putin also defined the conditions for ending the war in Ukraine, claiming that Kyiv "did not want to withdraw troops from Donbas and still refuses after the Istanbul negotiations".
Thus, Vladimir Putin's speech at the press conference once again highlights the role of the USA in the peace process and Russia's attitude towards the proposed compromises. In turn, the position of the Ukrainian authorities regarding the resolution of the conflict remains unchanged, emphasizing the importance of withdrawing troops from Donbas as the first condition for peace talks.
