Missile Strike on Kharkiv Kills 11, Including Two Children.
Kharkiv Attack on March 7, 2023
According to UATV: On March 7, 2023, Russian occupation forces launched a combined missile strike on Kharkiv, resulting in the deaths of 11 people, two of whom were children. At least 16 individuals were wounded, and several more are considered missing. The attack was carried out using ballistic and cruise missiles, one of which struck a multi-story residential building, destroying an entire entranceway. This assault is part of a broader pattern of attacks on Ukraine's second-largest city, which has endured relentless bombardment since the war's onset.
The shelling damaged over a dozen high-rise buildings in Kharkiv's Kyivskyi district. A school building, dozens of shops, and numerous cars sustained serious damage, with over 800 windows shattered. Sixteen apartment blocks were seriously damaged, four of them critically. In total, three separate missile strikes hit different districts of Kharkiv that day.
Rescue Operations and the City's Situation
Search and rescue operations are ongoing, with emergency workers stating that 'the rubble must be cleared using heavy machinery.' The search and rescue mission is expected to last at least two days. Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported that 'this was an aviation missile launched from an aircraft.' The situation in the city remains difficult, with local services continuing to work on eliminating the consequences of the attack.
This strike served as another grim reminder of the intensifying conflict in Ukraine, which has now persisted for over a year. Located near the border with Russia, Kharkiv has frequently been subjected to shelling, leading to significant human and material losses. Local authorities and rescue services are doing everything possible to ensure citizen safety and restore infrastructure, yet the situation remains extremely challenging.
