Assault on Kharkiv

According to UATV: On June 15, 2023, Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on Kharkiv, killing four rescue workers and one employee of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES). Nine additional people sustained injuries, six of whom were rescue personnel. The assault began on June 14 and marked a tragic milestone in the ongoing conflict.

Incident Details

The strike on Kharkiv involved four ballistic missiles. Based on preliminary assessments by bomb disposal experts, the weapons used were Iskander-M missiles, according to specialist Bohdan Hladkykh. The attack claimed the lives of four rescuers from the 6th State Fire and Rescue Unit of the Kharkiv Garrison.

  • Among the wounded is a young woman who recently joined the SES.
  • She suffered severe injuries resulting in the amputation of an upper limb.
  • In total, nine people were wounded, including six SES staff members.
  • Some of the injured are in critical condition.

Yevheniy Vasylenko reported that several victims require urgent medical care. This incident underscores the dangers faced by rescue workers operating in combat zones.

This tragedy serves as yet another reminder of the severity of the situation in Ukraine, where first responders risk their lives while carrying out duties amid an active armed conflict. The rising number of attacks on civilian infrastructure and emergency service personnel raises concerns, as it jeopardizes not only the safety of rescuers but also the lives of ordinary citizens. Such events can undermine public morale and intensify pressure on the government to ensure the protection of all individuals involved in crisis situations.
