Fish prices are expected to rise by 20%: how much will bream and trout cost in 2026

According to ТСН: Ukraine is expecting a significant increase in fish and seafood prices. Experts point to numerous negative factors affecting producers that may change prices as early as 2026.

Co-owner of a fish farm in Cherkasy region, Anna Sunko, notes that the main reason for the price increase is high production costs. The situation is exacerbated by constant shelling and unstable energy supply, causing fish farms to spend large amounts on fuel for generators, which ensure proper storage and cooling conditions for the fish.

In addition, feed costs have risen, which will automatically affect the final price for consumers. As a result, the energy independence of enterprises turns into higher prices for buyers.

How much will fish cost

Fish prices will gradually, but noticeably, increase. According to forecasts, by 2026, the cost of popular types of river fish will reach the following levels:

  • Bream: from 100 UAH/kg;

  • Grass carp: 85-90 UAH/kg;

  • White amur: up to 90 UAH/kg;

  • Catfish: from 150 UAH/kg.

The price of delicacy fish will also significantly rise. For a kilogram of trout, one will have to pay from 200 to 240 UAH.

There will also be an increase in prices for imported frozen fish. An increase of 15-20% is expected:

  • Pollock will cost approximately 150-180 UAH/kg;

  • Pangasius will reach the price of 140 UAH/kg.

Analysts urge Ukrainians to be prepared for the fact that the fish menu will become more expensive, as energy conditions remain the main factor in price formation.

Let us remind you that at the beginning of 2026, Ukrainians will face an ambiguous price situation: some high-fat dairy products and vegetables may become cheaper, while bread, eggs, and greenhouse vegetables will continue to rise in price. The main impacting factors remain the prices of electricity, weather conditions, and the real purchasing power of the population.
