RegioJet Eyes Extension of Train Service to Uzhhorod as Route Demand Doubles.
Expanding the Prague–Chop Connection
According to Novyny.live: RegioJet is considering extending its Prague–Chop train service to Uzhhorod, driven by surging demand on the route. The move follows the company’s strong performance: it carried 75,000 passengers in its first year and over 105,000 in the second. Given this upward trend, the operator aims to further develop the corridor and will explore opportunities to enhance connectivity with Ukraine.
The new European-gauge track segment from Chop to Uzhhorod spans 22 kilometers. To improve passenger service, the number of cars operating to Ukraine has been increased from three to four, raising seat capacity from 200 to 260. Tickets for RegioJet trains start at €19.60, roughly equivalent to 1,000 Ukrainian hryvnias.

The direct Prague–Košice–Chop train connects Ukraine with cities in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. However, RegioJet has postponed launching the Kyiv–Berlin service due to an unfinished transfer terminal at Mostyska II station. For entry into the Czech Republic starting April 2026, Ukrainians will need a biometric passport valid for at least 180 days beyond their departure date.

The rising passenger numbers on the Prague–Chop route reflect stronger ties between Ukraine and European nations, which could attract more tourists and business travelers to the region. At the same time, the delay in launching the Kyiv–Berlin train highlights the need to complete infrastructure projects to ensure seamless cross-border connections.
