Massive Drone Assault on Ukraine: Over 500 Iranian-Made Shaheds Downed, Casualties Reported.
Russia Launches Large-Scale Strike on Ukraine
According to UATV: On March 24, 2023, Russia carried out a massive drone attack on Ukraine using Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicles. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that more than 550 drones were launched, with over 500 intercepted and destroyed. The strikes resulted in fatalities and injuries, underscoring the severity of the situation. This assault marks one of the largest drone barrages since the conflict began, highlighting Russia's continued reliance on aerial bombardment.
Regions Targeted in the Attack
Drone launches were recorded throughout the day across multiple Ukrainian regions:
- Lviv
- Ivano-Frankivsk
- Ternopil
- Vinnytsia
- Zhytomyr
- Khmelnytskyi Oblast
- Rivne Oblast
- Kharkiv Oblast
- Dnipropetrovsk Oblast
Over 40 people were wounded in these attacks, including five children. Critical infrastructure also suffered damage, such as a maternity hospital in Ivano-Frankivsk and the historic center of Lviv.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy: 'Unfortunately, there are fatalities. My condolences to the families and loved ones.'
The president further emphasized that 'the scale of this attack makes it very clear that Russia has no intention of genuinely ending the war.' He called for stronger oversight and coordination to prevent 'Russia, the Iranian regime, and other similar entities from easily accessing the microelectronics and components needed to manufacture weapons.'
This event once again confirms the escalating conflict and the serious threats facing Ukraine. The drone assault not only harmed civilians but also underscored the urgent need to bolster defense measures and international collaboration to counter emerging security challenges. Given the scale and coordination of such attacks, Ukraine must continue strengthening its defensive capabilities and securing global support to resist aggression.
