The Kremlin plans to use prisoners infected with hepatitis B and C to participate in the war against Ukraine. This information was reported by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

«The corresponding order of the Russian Ministry of Defense by Belousov №610, issued on October 10, 2024, allows prisoners with hepatitis C to serve in the army», - reports the press service.

According to the intelligence report, a special procedure for recruiting hepatitis-infected individuals into the Russian occupation army has been designated for the formation of units. Infected prisoners are marked as «contingent C». Before being sent to the front, prisoners infected with hepatitis are necessarily vaccinated against hepatitis B and undergo antiviral therapy for hepatitis C.

Ukrainian intelligence officers say that the new Russian mobilization decision will allow up to a thousand prisoners to be recruited to participate in hostilities against Ukraine. About 15% of hepatitis patients in prisons and isolation facilities in the central military district of the Russian Federation have expressed a desire to participate in the war.

The first four assault companies and two reserve companies of hepatitis-infected individuals are being formed by the Russians as part of the 1435th and 1437th motorized rifle regiments. These companies will be deployed in the temporarily occupied territories of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions.

According to the intelligence report, Moscow has decided to use military service as a way to get rid of health problems and disappear from prisons. Many patients from large cities in Moscow are even ready to fight in the army to avoid criminal cases and protests.

It was recently revealed that the former mayor of Vladivostok signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense and will go to fight against Ukraine. He was sentenced in Russia to 15 years in prison for corruption.
