On the night of September 1, a massive drone attack took place in Russia, spreading to several regions and causing panic among the population. According to the Russian authorities, this attack was carried out by Ukrainian drones and included 158 drones. Especially heavy blows were recorded near Moscow, where the main target was the Moscow Oil Refinery in the Kapotnya area.

"Khvilya" reports this.

Despite the authorities' statements about the successful destruction of most of the drones, witnesses report serious damage to the oil refinery. Local residents observed a powerful fire pillar that exceeded the usual scheduled fire. This phenomenon, known as the "Kapotny Flare," took on threatening proportions this Time.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin tried to reassure the population by announcing the destruction of nine drones and minimal damage to the refinery's technical facility. However, Russian media reported that the fire in Kapotnya was of the highest level of complexity.

The Moscow Oil Refinery, owned by Gazprom Neft and in operation since 1938, is a strategically important facility for the Russian oil industry. Damage to this plant could have serious economic consequences.

It is worth noting that the attack was not limited to Moscow alone. In the Tver region, the oil refinery and gas distribution network in Konakovo were affected. Witnesses also report an attempted attack on the Kashira Thermal Power Plant in the Moscow region. Information about the attack also comes from the Ramensky district.

The strikes also spread to other regions of Russia, including the Tula, Belgorod, Lipetsk, Voronezh, Kursk, and Bryansk regions. Despite the authorities' claims of no casualties or destruction, photos and videos circulating on social media indicate otherwise.

According to Russian media, a total of 158 drones were destroyed, of which:

  • 46 drones were shot down over the Kursk region,
  • 34 - over Bryansk,
  • 28 - over Voronezh,
  • 14 - over Belgorod,
  • 8 - over Ryazan,
  • 2 - over Moscow,
  • 7 - over Moscow region,
  • 5 - over Kaluga,
  • 4 - over Lipetsk,
  • 3 - over Tula,
  • 2 each - over Tambov and Smolensk,
  • 1 each - over Oryol, Tver, and Ivanovo.

It should be added that earlier it was reported about an explosion at the Ryazan Oil Refinery, after which a strong fire began.
