Meat in Ukraine has increased in price by 45%: experts named the reasons and forecast.
According to ТСН: The meat departments of Ukrainian supermarkets offer consumers unpleasant prices that have reached record levels. Over the year, the cost of the most popular types of meat has risen by almost 50%.
Chicken breaks records
The price of chicken fillet, which was usually considered affordable meat, has become the biggest shock for consumers.
Chicken fillet: price has increased by 45%. If last year a kilogram cost 171 UAH, this year it has reached 250 UAH.
Chicken thigh: increased by 35%, from 114 UAH to 155 UAH/kg.
Whole chicken: price has risen by 32% – from 85.6 UAH to 113 UAH/kg.
Experts explain the rise in prices by the increase in feed costs, which significantly affects the expenses of poultry farms.
Beef becomes a delicacy
Red meat is also not left out. Beef has consistently become more expensive over the years.
A kilogram of goulash in 2023 cost 300 UAH, and now its price has risen to 352 UAH (+17%). The main reason is the shortage of cattle in Ukraine.
Eggs and sausages: diverse trends
As for other animal products, the situation is as follows:
Eggs (C1): a dozen has increased in price by 10% – from 74.1 UAH to 81.6 UAH.
Medical sausage: the only product that has decreased in price, its cost has decreased by 6% – from 420 to 398 UAH/kg.
What to expect next
Unfortunately, price stabilization is not expected in the near future. Experts from UCAB predict that by the end of winter, the cost of meat products may increase by another 5–7%. The sector continues to be influenced by high prices for energy resources and logistics.
Also, we remind you that over the past year, the borscht index in Ukraine has increased. The main factors were unfavorable weather conditions and a decrease in vegetable supplies.
The increase in prices for meat products is caused by many factors, including rising production and logistics costs. Consumers, in turn, are forced to look for alternatives or reduce consumption, which, in turn, will affect the market in the future. Given what UCAB predicts, Ukrainians may face new challenges related to rising prices in the food sector. Maintaining a balance between demand and prices will become an important task for the authorities and producers.
