Drone Strikes in Ukraine Kill Four Children, Leave Thousands Without Power.
Civilian Toll from Attacks on Bohodukhiv and Zaporizhzhia
According to UATV: On February 11, 2023, Russian military forces carried out drone strikes on the city of Bohodukhiv in the Kharkiv region and launched an attack on Zaporizhzhia. These assaults resulted in civilian casualties and significant damage. In Bohodukhiv, a 34-year-old man and three children were killed; the children included two one-year-old boys and a two-year-old girl. Two women were also wounded, one of whom was pregnant. These attacks are part of a wider pattern of strikes on civilian areas far from the front lines.
The attack on Zaporizhzhia left two people wounded. Furthermore, over 11,000 subscribers in two districts of the city lost electricity and heating. Local authorities noted that restoring heat supply could prove particularly difficult and time-consuming.
“There is destruction in the private housing sector,” said Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration.
The situation has caused deep concern among the population, as the shelling has led to loss of life and severe infrastructure problems. In a separate incident highlighting the tragedy of these events, an 11-year-old girl and her mother were killed by shelling in Sloviansk.
Ongoing Tension Across Ukraine
The situation in Ukraine remains tense, with military actions continuing to have a severe negative impact on civilians. The shelling of cities, which results in population casualties and infrastructure destruction, points to serious humanitarian issues and underscores the need for sustained international support. While authorities are attempting to respond swiftly to the consequences of attacks, the repair of damaged infrastructure may take a long time, further complicating life for local residents.
