Widespread Assault on Ukraine's Energy Infrastructure

According to Novyny.live: On February 7, Russian forces launched a large-scale attack against Ukraine's energy facilities, specifically targeting the Burshtyn and Dobrotvir thermal power plants (TPPs). High-voltage substations of 750 kV and 330 kV were also hit, causing severe damage to the national power grid. This relentless targeting of energy assets is a core component of Russia's ongoing war strategy.

The assault on the energy infrastructure forced the implementation of emergency power outage schedules, ranging from 4.5 to 5 stages, across the entire territory of Ukraine. This marks the tenth major attack on DTEK's thermal power plants since October 2025. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, DTEK's TPPs have been attacked more than 220 times.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal reported that personnel at nuclear power plants had safely unloaded reactor units, a measure taken to ensure the security of the energy system.

The situation remains critical, and further actions will depend on how events unfold.

Ongoing Strain on Critical Infrastructure

This latest strike underscores the persistent challenges facing Ukraine's energy infrastructure amid the war. Regular bombardments of energy facilities not only worsen the power supply situation but also threaten the country's overall energy security. Such incidents have serious consequences for the civilian population, including widespread power outages and the necessity for emergency blackouts to prevent a total grid collapse.

Close coordination between the government and energy companies remains vital to ensure the stability of the power system under these conditions of heightened risk.
