Ukraine's Energy Grid Hit in Major Overnight Assault: Over 400 Drones and 40 Rockets Fired.
Strikes Target Ukraine's Critical Energy Infrastructure
According to TSN.ua: In a large-scale overnight assault on February 7, Russian forces launched a massive barrage against Ukraine's energy grid, firing over 400 drones and approximately 40 missiles of various types. This coordinated attack, part of a wider strategy to cripple civilian infrastructure, impacted multiple regions, including:
- Volyn Oblast
- Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast
- Lviv Oblast
- Rivne Oblast
- Kyiv Oblast
- Kharkiv Oblast
The strikes caused significant damage to energy facilities, exacerbating the strain on the nation's power supply. In Rivne, a residential building was damaged, while in Ladyzhyn, Vinnytsia Oblast, an administrative building of an agricultural college was hit. These attacks represent a continued escalation of the conflict and a direct threat to Ukraine's vital infrastructure.
Ukrainian President's Statement
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to the situation, stating that Russia could choose the path of diplomacy every day, but instead opts for new strikes.
He stressed the critical need for an international response to such actions and emphasized that Moscow must be stripped of its ability to pressure Ukraine with cold. Zelenskyy also added that Ukraine urgently requires missiles for Patriot, NASAMS, and other air defense systems, as every delivery of aid is crucial for surviving the winter.
These events underscore the dire situation in Ukraine, where the energy grid faces relentless attacks, threatening power stability during the coldest months. The international community's reaction to Russia's actions could play a decisive role in bolstering Ukraine's defense capabilities and preventing further escalation. It is anticipated that these strikes will prompt increased support from Western partners, particularly in military assistance.
