Energy Infrastructure in Zaporizhzhia Targeted by Russian Attack

According to Novyny.live: A Russian strike hit a critical energy facility in Zaporizhzhia on February 20, cutting off electricity for approximately 41,000 customers. The attack occurred around 06:00. As of the latest reports, around 8,000 subscribers remained without power. This incident is part of a wider Russian campaign targeting Ukraine's civilian energy grid, which has intensified during the winter months.

Zaporizhzhia has endured repeated assaults from Russian forces, inflicting severe hardship on the local population. For instance, a massive fire broke out in the region following shelling on February 15. Furthermore, attacks on February 18 in Zaporizhzhia Oblast resulted in documented destruction and civilian casualties.

Zaporizhzhia Mayor Ivan Fedorov expressed hope for a swift restoration of services: 'We hope to be able to restore power to absolutely all subscribers.'

He also stated that 'as for the heat supply, it will all be provided as usual.' According to him, 'power outages in the city of Zaporizhzhia and Zaporizhzhia Oblast last no more than 4 hours, after which electricity is restored.'

The situation in the region remains tense, with residents continuing to suffer the consequences of ongoing military actions.

This latest strike on Zaporizhzhia's energy infrastructure underscores the protracted and intense nature of the conflict in Ukraine, which persistently disrupts the daily lives of civilians. The loss of electricity due to hostilities impacts not only comfort but also public safety, as these facilities are vital for the city's basic functions. The efforts by local authorities to restore power demonstrate their commitment to addressing the severe challenges posed by the war.
