According to UATV: On February 22, 2023, Russian forces launched an attack on the Kyiv region, specifically targeting the village of Sofiyivska Borshchahivka. The assault occurred at 3:56 AM, causing significant damage to residential buildings and energy infrastructure. This incident resulted in two people being injured and one person killed—a 49-year-old man in the Fastiv district.

An entire residential block was damaged in Sofiyivska Borshchahivka. Rescue workers managed to pull eight people from the rubble who had been trapped in a dangerous situation. Local residents shared their experiences of the events. One of them remarked:

"We were in the house. We never went to the shelter. There's no possibility to go anywhere. And where would we go here?"
