Russian Drone Strike on Odesa Kills One, Damages High-Rise.
Odesa Targeted in Overnight Assault
According to Novyny.live: In the early hours of February 9, Russian forces launched an attack on Odesa and the surrounding region using combat drones. The strike resulted in one fatality and left two others wounded. Significant property damage was inflicted, including a direct hit on the roof of a 24-story residential building.
Extent of the Damage
The attack caused widespread destruction. Damaged property includes:
- six passenger vehicles;
- a fitness club building;
- a three-story structure.
To manage the aftermath, 53 personnel from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) and 13 pieces of equipment were deployed to the site. Psychologists were also present, providing support to residents affected by the traumatic event.
Oleh Kiper, the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, reported on the attack's consequences, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
This incident is the latest in a series of escalations in the region, highlighting the persistent danger faced by Odesa's civilian population. The strategic port city on the Black Sea has been a frequent target since Russia's full-scale invasion began in 2022, part of a wider conflict that has affected Ukraine since 2014. Such events underscore not only the ongoing threat to civilians but also the critical need for enhanced security measures and preparedness for potential future attacks.
