Russian Drone Strike Hits Passenger Train in Kharkiv Region, Injuring Two.
Passenger Train Targeted in Kharkiv Region Attack
According to Novyny.live: On January 27, Russian forces attacked a passenger train in the Kharkiv region using three Shahed-type drones, wounding two people. The strike caused impacts both in front of the locomotive and directly on a passenger car, which ignited a fire. This incident is part of a broader pattern of attacks on civilian infrastructure since Russia's full-scale invasion began in February 2022.
At the time of the attack, 291 passengers were on board. As of 5:13 PM, two injured individuals were reported and subsequently hospitalized. Local official Oleksiy Kuleba stated that reserve buses were being organized to evacuate the passengers. He added that the strike on the passenger train constitutes a direct act of Russian terror targeting civilians.
Attack's Impact on the Situation in Ukraine
This assault on civilian transport further complicates an already difficult situation in Ukraine during the ongoing armed conflict. The use of drones to target passenger trains indicates an escalation of violence and heightens the risks for the civilian population. Such tactics aim to disrupt essential services and spread fear.
The response from local authorities and medical services underscores the critical need for rapid emergency response and support for victims in these crisis situations.
