According to Novyny.live: On January 27, Russian occupying forces attacked a passenger train, causing a fire and killing 5 people. The incident occurred on the route of train No. 47/103, traveling from Barvinkove to Lviv and Chop. Despite the tragic outcome, the undamaged carriages resumed their journey. This attack is part of a wider pattern of strikes on civilian infrastructure since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022.
Currently, 10 surviving carriages are transporting 147 passengers, with the service delayed by approximately 5 hours. The railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, expressed its condolences, stating:
Our thoughts are with the deceased.
Meanwhile, the company reported that the condition of the wounded is stable, and plans are being made to transport them to Kharkiv.
Transportation Security
This incident underscores the heightened dangers facing rail transport in wartime. The events have caused significant alarm among passengers and their relatives, as transportation safety remains a critical concern. Enhancing the security of rail shipments is likely to become a priority for the railway operator and government authorities amid the ongoing conflict.
