Strike on Kyiv-Sumy Rail Service

According to Novyny.live: On March 8, Russian forces attacked a Kyiv-Sumy passenger train carrying approximately 200 people. While the locomotive section sustained damage, no casualties were reported among the passengers. Rail service on this route was temporarily halted to ensure passenger safety and to begin repairs. Ukraine's railway network has been a vital lifeline for civilians and military logistics since the full-scale invasion began.

The Chairman of the Board of Ukrzaliznytsia, Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, stated that the situation with the railway infrastructure remains under control. He noted that

"yesterday (March 7 — Ed.) there was a massive attack on infrastructure overall. Our railway workers were on site literally minutes after the attacks. Traffic resumed. As of today, another six or seven trains are running with delays, but full stabilization will occur within the day."

This incident follows a separate attack on March 7 in the Dnipropetrovsk region, where one man was killed. These events underscore the ongoing targeting of railway infrastructure, which endangers lives and threatens the continuity of rail transport. No schedule changes are currently anticipated, offering hope for a swift return to stable operations.

This latest strike confirms a concerning pattern of deliberate attacks on Ukraine's transport networks, with serious potential implications for civilian safety and the national economy. Despite these challenges, Ukrzaliznytsia representatives assert their readiness to restore train traffic quickly, demonstrating the system's resilience in wartime conditions.
