Russian Strikes Hit Kyiv and Two Regions, Causing Fires and Casualties.
Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Sumy Regions Targeted
According to UATV: On February 5, 2023, Russian military forces launched attacks against the Dnipropetrovsk and Sumy regions, as well as the capital, Kyiv. The assault, which originated from the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea, involved two 'Iskander-M' ballistic missiles and 183 attack drones. This latest barrage is part of a sustained campaign targeting Ukrainian civilian infrastructure far from the front lines. The strikes resulted in widespread destruction, fires, and casualties in the Ukrainian capital.
In Kyiv, one man was wounded. A fire broke out near a parking lot in the Obolonskyi district, igniting two cars, which firefighters promptly extinguished. In the Solomianskyi district, windows were damaged in four residential buildings, while in the Shevchenkivskyi district, a strike on a four-story office building also caused a fire.
Damage Reported in Dnipropetrovsk and Sumy
Destruction was recorded in four districts of the Dnipropetrovsk region. In the Synelnykivskyi district, drone attacks sparked fires, and in the Pavlohrad district, a school gymnasium was damaged by a UAV strike. In the city of Sumy, the blast wave shattered windows in multi-story apartment buildings, and a fire occurred in a non-residential building in the Shostka community.
These events underscore the continuation of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, leading to new casualties and destruction in cities across the country.
The attacks highlight the growing threat to civilians in Ukraine and point to potential new phases of escalation in the conflict.
The international response to these events remains crucial, as they could influence the further development of the situation in the region and efforts toward a peaceful settlement. The situation in Ukraine continues to cause concern within the global community, which is closely watching the evolution of the conflict and its implications for European security.
