Officials fear that as many as nine people remain trapped beneath the debris of a destroyed building. So far, emergency teams have pulled 17 individuals to safety, with seven of them extricated from the wreckage under extremely challenging conditions.

Official Statements and On-the-Ground Response

Andriy Danyk, head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES), described the site as one of the most difficult rescue locations due to the scale of destruction. He stated:

'During the rescue operation at this particular location, we managed to save 17 people. Seven of them were dug out from the rubble under very harsh conditions.' Andriy Danyk, Head of the SES

Heavy engineering equipment is being used to clear the debris efficiently. Danyk also noted that rescue and firefighting units had been moved from their regular stations ahead of the strike, explaining: 'We knew about the attack; we prepared for it.'

The situation in Kyiv remains grave, with the death toll rising to 20. Emergency services continue their work across the city to deal with the aftermath of the assault and locate any additional victims. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine urgently requires more missiles to bolster its air defense capabilities.

This tragedy underscores the severe threat facing Kyiv amid the ongoing war. The high number of casualties highlights the devastating impact of attacks on civilians, a critical issue in the current conflict. The rescue operations, carried out under extremely difficult circumstances, demonstrate the relentless efforts of Ukrainian emergency teams to save lives and provide aid. Continued strikes of this nature may necessitate further security measures to protect the region.
