Russian Strike on Zaporizhzhia Injures Six and Damages 14 Apartment Blocks.
Zaporizhzhia Comes Under Attack on January 28
According to UATV: In the early hours of January 28, around 4:00 a.m., Russian forces launched a major assault on the city of Zaporizhzhia. The attack involved 146 strikes, including the use of drones and a ballistic missile. This relentless bombardment resulted in six civilians being wounded and significant damage to 14 multi-story residential buildings.
The assault caused widespread destruction beyond the apartment blocks, damaging approximately 20 vehicles and shattering windows in more than 200 apartments. The attack also caused a partial power outage across parts of the city. Residents who endured the onslaught described terrifying sounds of explosions reverberating through the night.
One eyewitness, Valentyna, recounted: 'There was a missile. A huge 'bang' happened, and a plane flew away. I jumped out through the window. My frame here is smashed, the glass is gone, but over there everything is intact. All around, everything is shattered.'
A Concerning Escalation
This incident marks another severe escalation in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which continues to directly threaten civilian safety and livelihoods in the region. The city of Zaporizhzhia, home to Europe's largest nuclear power plant, has been a frequent target since the war's outset.
The events in Zaporizhzhia reflect a deeply troubling pattern of increasing violence across Ukraine, where civilians are increasingly bearing the brunt of military actions. Given the scale of this latest attack, it is likely to intensify the conflict further and draw renewed international scrutiny to the deteriorating humanitarian situation.
