January 30th Attack on Zaporizhzhia

According to UATV: On January 30, Russian forces carried out a drone strike on the city of Zaporizhzhia. The attack resulted in injuries to two women and caused damage to six apartment buildings and ten private houses. The blast wave from the explosions shattered windows and destroyed balconies and roofs on multiple structures. This southeastern Ukrainian city has been a frequent target since the start of the full-scale invasion.

The nighttime strike nearly leveled one private home in a city district, while six other houses sustained major damage. A fire ignited by the blasts burned until it was extinguished the following morning. Local residents reported extremely loud explosions. One resident, Volodymyr, stated:

“I was already asleep, and then I heard this loud, roaring sound. Then a huge bang. I jumped up, wondering what to do and where to go.”

Another resident, Ivan, recounted: “It droned loudly. We thought it was right next to our house. People came here during the night and saw what it had done. This is what happens. And there was supposed to be a ceasefire starting at midnight.”

Impact of Attacks on Civilians

Since the beginning of January, Russian drones and missiles have damaged 22 apartment blocks and 13 private homes in Zaporizhzhia. These attacks have killed three civilians. The January 30th strike represents another tragic episode for local residents, who continue to endure the consequences of ongoing hostilities. The targeting of civilian infrastructure is a persistent feature of the conflict.

This latest incident underscores the relentless threat to civilian populations in Ukraine, particularly in regions facing regular bombardment. With ceasefires failing to hold and violence continuing, the people of Zaporizhzhia live in a state of constant uncertainty and fear. The situation in the region demands urgent international efforts to ensure safety and stability and to prevent further civilian casualties.
