Russia is destroying Ukrainian universities: expert reveals the goals of Kremlin attacks.
The Putin regime is attacking Ukrainian universities, trying to show the world community that its crimes go unpunished. This was stated today, August 19, on the air of the FREEДОМ TV channel by the director of the Eastern Human Rights Group, PhD in Political Science Vera Yastremsova.
'Putin is targeting educational institutions. He wants to deprive us of the future, to deprive us of science. Initially, there was the deportation of children, now Russia observes how children and families remain in Ukraine, tying their future to Ukraine, wanting to obtain higher education here, and therefore the Putin regime consciously, purposefully, and deliberately strikes at universities,' she emphasized.
Yastremsova cited the example of the Russian strike on Odesa National Polytechnic University. As a result of the attack by the Russian army, several buildings of the educational institution were damaged.
'This is just one example of universities in the city of Odesa, similar things are happening in other cities. Putin wants to destroy the intellectual potential because patriotic youth who support Ukraine study in our universities, and they will not allow a resurgence of Kremlin and pro-Russian forces in the upcoming elections. Therefore, they are systematically destroying the base where children can gain knowledge,' the human rights activist is confident.
Despite the Russian strikes on universities and schools, the educational process in Ukraine continues.
'Putin is trying to impose his position, but he is crashing against the unbreakable stance of the Ukrainian people and, first of all, the presidential vertical of power, which is doing everything to ensure that schools, hospitals, stores, and energy infrastructure are functioning in the next year of war. This is the main challenge for the Kremlin regime overall,' Yastremsova concluded.
It should be noted that on the night of August 18, the Russian army struck the territory of Sumy State University twice: first with a ballistic missile, then with strike drones. This was already the third shelling of the educational institution.
The Putin regime is attacking Ukrainian universities, targeting the intellectual potential of the younger generation, but even under such conditions, the educational process in Ukraine continues, strengthening the patriotic spirit of the nation and supporting the unwavering position of the Ukrainian people in opposition to the Kremlin regime.
