Attacks Target Kherson and Other Cities

According to UATV: On February 8, 2023, Russian military attacks using multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) struck the city of Kherson, injuring six people. Two of the victims sustained serious injuries and were hospitalized. The injuries diagnosed included blast trauma, closed head injuries, and concussions. Two of the wounded were taken to the hospital in a condition of moderate severity.

The assault resulted in widespread fires and significant damage at the site. The following were set ablaze:

  • private residential houses
  • non-residential and warehouse premises
  • a garage
  • the roof of an apartment building

All fires have since been extinguished.

These attacks are part of a wider wave of strikes across Ukraine that night. In Odesa, a drone strike caused a fire at an industrial enterprise, though no casualties were reported. In Chuhuiv, attacks by Russian drones damaged two apartment buildings, injuring one person, with utility services already beginning repair work. Overnight on February 8, Russia launched over 100 attack drones, predominantly 'Shahed' models, across Ukraine.

The Broader Conflict in Ukraine

These events occur within the context of Russia's ongoing invasion, which has led to extensive civilian casualties and the destruction of critical infrastructure across the country. The targeting of civilian objects, including homes and industrial facilities, underscores the severe and escalating nature of the violence.

It is important to note that such incidents highlight the urgent need for continued international support and measures to ensure the safety of Ukraine's civilian population.
