Russian Strikes Target Kherson and Prykarpattia, Causing Civilian Harm and Infrastructure Damage.
Attacks on Ukrainian Civilian Regions
According to UATV: On February 17, Russian military forces launched strikes against civilian areas of Ukraine, specifically targeting the Kherson region and a community in Prykarpattia. These attacks are part of a broader Russian campaign that has systematically targeted civilian infrastructure since the full-scale invasion began two years ago. A 72-year-old man was wounded in the assault and received necessary medical aid. The shelling caused severe damage to infrastructure, with multi-story residential buildings and an educational facility sustaining destruction.
Yaroslav Shanko reported that, so far, one casualty is known.
“At this moment, we know of one injured person. He is a 72-year-old man who has been provided with the necessary medical assistance,”he stated. Furthermore, the attacks disrupted the heating supply in one of the Prykarpattia territorial communities. According to Svitlana Onyshchuk,
“Work is currently underway to restore the heating supply. Fortunately, there were no casualties in this incident.”
Commentary from Ukraine's President
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the situation, highlighting the complexity of the strikes:
“The strike was combined and specifically calculated to cause maximum harm to the energy system.”Meanwhile, scheduled hourly power outage schedules remain in effect across the country, indicating the ongoing strain on the nation's energy grid from such targeted attacks.
These strikes represent a continuation of Russia's ongoing aggression, which has already resulted in numerous casualties and widespread destruction throughout Ukraine. Ensuring energy stability remains a critical challenge, as the attacks are deliberately aimed at critical infrastructure, posing severe risks to the civilian population. Restoring the damaged infrastructure and securing heat and electricity for the affected regions will require significant effort and resources from Ukrainian authorities and their international partners.
