Zelenskyy Reveals Russia Set 15 Deadlines to Capture Donetsk—None Were Met.
Ukraine's President Addresses the Nation
According to Espreso.tv: During his evening address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy highlighted a striking pattern in Russia's military planning: since the start of the full-scale invasion, Moscow has issued 15 separate deadlines for seizing the Donetsk region. Each one, he noted, has been missed as the situation on the battlefield evolved.
A Timeline of Missed Targets in Donetsk
In 2022, Russian forces set the following deadlines for capturing Donetsk:
- By March 31
- By May 9
- By June 1
- By September 15
- By December 31
The following year, 2023, saw further postponements: first to March 31, then to September 1, and finally to December 31. Russia also set two additional deadlines in 2023, and three more in 2025—targeting September 1, December 1, and December 25, respectively.
'If Russia does not end its war, they will have to push back this latest deadline too.' Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Zelenskyy also stated, 'We have already presented all the proposals needed to end this war, and Russia has rejected them every time.' These remarks underscore Ukraine's willingness to engage in negotiations, while also pointing to Moscow's consistent refusal to pursue a peaceful resolution.
The repeated rescheduling of these capture dates reflects growing uncertainty within the Russian military about its ability to achieve its stated objectives. Such frequent changes may indicate significant setbacks on the front lines and broader strategic failures. Ukraine's openness to dialogue highlights the diplomatic dimension of the conflict, but Russia's rejection of peace initiatives continues to hinder the path toward a stable and lasting peace in the region.
