Logistics Under Fire: Russia Targets Kharkiv–Sumy Highway.
Escalating Assaults on Ukraine's Supply Routes
According to Novyny.live: Russian forces have intensified their campaign against logistical infrastructure in Ukraine's border regions, specifically targeting the road corridor connecting Kharkiv and Sumy. These strikes began in early June 2023, following a period of heightened tensions in the area. In late May, occupiers started using drones to attack vehicles on the ring road in the Kharkiv region.
According to reports, restrictions were imposed on a section of the M-03 highway, stretching from the Zoo to the Lypky intersection, along the ring road. In early June 2023, Oleh Syniehubov announced efforts to protect the route with anti-drone netting. However, on June 6 and 7, Russian forces struck Kharkiv and 17 settlements in the region, underscoring the growing threat to local transportation networks.
Fallout from the Strikes
The attacks have had direct consequences: in Molodova, a Russian FPV drone hit a car, while in Derhachi, a drone struck a gas station. These incidents have sparked alarm among residents and drivers alike.
Serhiy Beskrestnov noted: 'Unfortunately, we are not the only ones who understand the significance of targeting logistics.'
He added: 'Asking drivers to stay alert in this situation sounds pointless—we need to figure out what to do.'
The ongoing strikes on transport infrastructure in Ukraine's border regions point to an escalation in the conflict, as Russian forces seek to destabilize key supply routes. This could complicate the delivery of humanitarian aid and other essential resources, a critical concern during wartime. Ensuring the safety of transportation has become a top priority for local authorities and military units in response to these threats.
