Meeting of the Foreign Ministries
The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergey Lavrov, discussed the situation surrounding Venezuela with his Belarusian counterpart.
According to the Russian agency, the parties expressed solidarity with the detained politician.
“They stressed the need to immediately release Maduro and restore him to his position as head of state,” the Russian Foreign Ministry's statement said.
Reaction to the military operation
Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev also sharply commented on the American military operation in Venezuela, calling it an “example of U.S. peacemaking” and criticizing the detention of the legally elected president Maduro.
He cynically noted that the U.S. “could attack Ukraine,” emphasizing that the only defense against external violence against the state is the possession of nuclear weapons.
This situation highlights the tension in international relations, especially between countries that support Maduro. The reactions of Russia and Belarus indicate their readiness to surprise NATO and the U.S. during international crises. Security issues in the region will remain relevant, as events in Venezuela may have implications for other countries, including Ukraine and its regional neighbors.
