Russian Strike on Kyiv’s Dovzhenko Film Studio Destroys Ukraine’s Largest Costume Collection.
Russian Forces Launch New Wave of Attacks on Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: On the night of June 15, 2023, Russian forces carried out a fresh assault on Ukraine, causing severe damage in multiple cities. In Kyiv, the Dovzhenko Film Studio was hit, with its costume workshop burning down and Ukraine’s largest collection of costumes—a vital cultural asset—completely destroyed. This incident deals a heavy blow to the country’s film industry and heritage. The studio, named after the iconic Ukrainian filmmaker Oleksandr Dovzhenko, has long been a cornerstone of national cinema.
That same night, the Russian army targeted Dnipro, where a college building was partially demolished. The blast shattered windows at a nearby school and cultural center, and also damaged the House of Organ and Chamber Music. These strikes not only wreck infrastructure but also endanger civilian safety, underscoring the ongoing threat to ordinary Ukrainians.
In Slaviansk, a Russian aerial attack wounded six civilians, including a 9-year-old boy. The bombardment also damaged 24 multi-story apartment buildings and three vehicles. These events highlight Russia’s continued aggression and the serious challenges facing Ukrainian society as it endures relentless bombardment.
Broader Impact of the Attacks
These attacks are part of the prolonged conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which has been ongoing since 2014. Strikes on civilian sites—particularly cultural institutions—reveal not only the war’s destructive toll on infrastructure but also its erosion of Ukraine’s national identity and cultural legacy. With each new assault, the urgent need for international support to protect civilians and rebuild shattered infrastructure grows more pressing.
