Russia intensifies attacks with the new Geran-5 drone: why it is dangerous.
According to ТСН: Russian forces have started using a new version of the long-range strike drone 'Geran-5' for attacks on Ukraine. This UAV is developed based on the Iranian interceptor drone.
According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), experts believe that Russia has established a new production line for manufacturing this type of UAV, using Iranian technology.
'The new drone occupiers plan to use not only for hitting ground targets but also for strikes on aerial targets, which could potentially enhance Russian strike capabilities and air defense systems.'
Additionally, the Main Intelligence Directorate reported that the new UAV 'Geran-5' was observed being used in attacks on Ukraine at the beginning of 2026.
According to intelligence data, this drone is about 6 meters long and has a wingspan of up to 5.5 meters. Unlike its predecessors, the 'Geran-5' is designed based on a traditional aerodynamic scheme.
The introduction of new drones emphasizes the intensification of military action and technological advancements being employed by Russia. This could have serious implications for the operational situation in the region, as the new drones can significantly complicate Ukraine's defense, increasing risks to civilian populations and infrastructure. Monitoring these developments remains critically important for assessing future actions in the conflict.
