Russia Unleashes Overnight Barrage of 125 Attack Drones on Ukraine.
Ukraine Targeted by Major Drone Assault
According to Novyny.live: In a sustained overnight assault, Russian forces launched a massive wave of 125 attack drones against Ukrainian territory from the evening of February 9th into the morning of February 10th. The attack, which began at 6:00 PM on February 9th, represents one of the largest drone offensives in recent months.
Approximately 70 of the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were identified as Iranian-designed 'Shahed' models. The drones were launched from multiple locations within Russia, including:
- Kursk
- Oryol
- Bryansk
- Primorsko-Akhtarsk
- Shatalovo
- Millerovo
By 8:30 AM, Ukrainian air defenses reported successfully intercepting or neutralizing 110 of the 125 hostile drones. Despite these efforts, 13 attack drones struck six separate locations, with debris from downed UAVs causing damage at two additional sites. This large-scale operation marks a continued escalation in the intensity of aerial warfare against Ukraine. The use of such swarms aims to overwhelm and penetrate air defense systems.
Ongoing Conflict and the Rise of Drone Warfare
This drone assault is part of the wider, ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which has seen active hostilities since Russia's initial invasion in 2014. The increasing reliance on drone technology by both sides highlights a significant shift in modern combat tactics and the militarization of commercially available systems.
While the high interception rate demonstrates the effectiveness of Ukrainian air defense efforts, the persistent nature of these attacks continues to endanger civilian lives and critical national infrastructure across the country.
