Russia Attacked a Historic Synagogue in Odesa: Consequences of the Drone Strike

The drone attack on Odesa on the night of July 4 resulted in severe damage to the historic Peresyp synagogue. The Jewish community of the city immediately condemned this incident.

According to the Jewish community of Odesa, the synagogue was severely damaged during the shelling. Catching fire, the building became a victim of the explosion, after which the windows and doors were destroyed. Community representatives opposed this event.

The day after we mourn the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem, we now mourn another loss — severe damage to the Peresyp synagogue in Odesa. Although it has not been used in recent years, for many generations it has been a house of prayer, memory, and holiness, where ancient scrolls and books were kept. Its destruction is a wound for our community and our heritage.

Representatives of the Jewish community in Odesa called on world leaders and human rights organizations to condemn acts of aggression by the Russian Federation against the religious institution. It should not be forgotten that such attacks are not taking place for the first time.

This incident is yet another example of human rights violations and aggression against religious sites. It is necessary to consider the historical significance of such places and protect their security from any threats.
