Zaporizhzhia Drone Strike by Russia Injures Five and Damages Homes.
Russian Forces Launch Attack on Zaporizhzhia
According to UATV: On February 24, 2023, Russian forces once again struck the city of Zaporizhzhia. The assault, carried out using Shahed-type attack drones, resulted in five casualties, including a child, and caused extensive damage across several residential districts. The attack damaged 12 apartment buildings and multiple private vehicles. This strike is part of a wider pattern of attacks on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure that has persisted since the full-scale invasion began.
Witnesses to the tragedy expressed their outrage and fear. One resident, Lidiia Vasylivna, described the scene:
"The rescue workers had to break the door down. All the windows were literally smashed out, the balconies, all the glass, everything was gone."Another victim, Inna, added:
"There is so much shrapnel and debris. How can we endure this? We have no bags, nothing to carry it in. So we're using buckets."
The regional prosecutor's office has classified the attack as a war crime and initiated criminal proceedings. Kateryna, who is coordinating aid for the victims, reported:
"People are coming to us for the materials we brought today—OSB boards and tarpaulin. They also need psychological help."
This incident underscores the ongoing humanitarian impact of the war and the urgent need to support local civilians. The victims require immediate assistance and material resources to repair their homes. Beyond the physical destruction, such attacks inflict deep and lasting psychological trauma on survivors, highlighting a critical need for sustained support from both state and international organizations for those living under constant threat.
