The Russian invaders are restoring the runway and technical infrastructure of Donetsk airport. It seems that the Russian Federation plans to use Donetsk airport to launch kamikaze drones of the Shahed type.

According to military magazine information on Saturday, August 2, Russian occupiers are likely restoring the infrastructure of Donetsk airport.

According to military magazine information, Russian occupiers are likely restoring the infrastructure of Donetsk airport.

It is noted that work at Donetsk airport began in July 2025. Currently, the following changes are visible:

  • Excavated trenches crossing the runway (left in the photo);
  • Ongoing construction work at the site of abandoned parking lots - possibly preparing to install fuel tanks (in the center of the photo);
  • Possible construction work at the site of the hypermarket - either renovation or construction of a military facility.

The military magazine noted that isolated reports of launching Shahed-136/Geran-2 from Donetsk airport have been received, but the information has not been confirmed.

Recently, it became known how many drones Russian troops launched over Ukraine since the beginning of 2025.

Earlier, an aviation expert answered the question of whether Russia could completely switch to jet drones.

The Russian occupiers are preparing Donetsk airport for launching kamikaze drones of the Shahed type, restoring the infrastructure and conducting construction work. Information about possible drone launches from this airport has not been confirmed yet, but work continues, indicating possible preparations for such actions.
