Russians in the Kursk region launched an assault and lost dozens of units of equipment.
In the Kursk region, Russian troops attempted to carry out an assault but suffered significant losses due to mines set by the armed forces of Ukraine. This was reported by the commander of the Ground Forces, Oleksandr Pavliuk.
«Kursk region. While attempting to conduct assault operations, the enemy lost 17 units of equipment – only due to mine explosions,» he said.
Thanks to mine-explosive barriers established by engineers and sapper units, about 30% of enemy equipment was destroyed during the attempt to advance.
The Russian army is preparing for a counteroffensive and the withdrawal of the Ukrainian armed forces from Russian territory. However, the size of the Russian military group in the Kursk region is not very large, according to a report by the Institute for the Study of War. It is noted that recent assessments by Western and Ukrainian experts do not indicate a significant number of Russian troops in the region. The Russian army has been accumulating forces for a counteroffensive and the expulsion of the Ukrainian armed forces from its territory in recent months.
Russian President Vladimir Putin intends to restore control over the Kursk region before the inauguration of the new US President Donald Trump, which will take place on January 20.
The Ukrainian armed forces managed to capture many occupiers and remove Russian equipment from the territory of Ukraine thanks to operations in the Kursk region.
