Russian Su-30SM fighter jet crashed into the Black Sea: pilots not found.
A Russian military aircraft Su-30SM has crashed into the Black Sea near Zmiinyi Island. A search and rescue operation is underway as the pilots have not been found.
According to the Ukrainian Navy, intelligence received radio interceptions about the loss of communication with the aircraft that was performing a mission in the Black Sea near Odesa. Wreckage of the plane has been found on the water's surface, but the pilots have yet to be located.
What is known about the Su-30SM aircraft
The Su-30SM is a heavy 4th generation fighter designed for air superiority and targeting air, ground, and surface targets. It has a wingspan of 14.7 meters, a maximum takeoff weight of 35 tons, and a combat radius of 1500 kilometers. The maximum speed is 2125 km/h, and the cost exceeds 50 million dollars.
