According to UATV: A Russian attack on February 22nd caused significant damage in Kyiv and the surrounding region, particularly in the village of Sofiyivska Borshchahivka. The assault resulted in two houses being completely destroyed, the death of a 46-year-old man, and injuries to 17 people, including four children. An air raid alert sounded at 03:56, with the explosions that caused the destruction occurring at 03:58. At 06:00, the Russian military launched a mass strike using cruise missiles. This attack is part of a broader pattern of strikes targeting civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.
Aftermath and Eyewitness Accounts
In Sofiyivska Borshchahivka, the site of the most severe destruction, residents described horrific scenes. One local resident, Anton Babenko, recounted:
“My mother was lying on the bed. She was covered by drywall from above. The entire ceiling was on the floor.”
This testimony underscores the catastrophic impact of the attack on the local population.
Damage was also recorded in the Obolonskyi, Brovary, Boryspil, Bucha, and Fastiv districts of the region. In the Fastiv district, where the man was killed, a woman was injured in the Boryspil district. Additionally, four people were evacuated from burning buildings.
Another eyewitness, Viktoria Ruban, noted a critical secondary hazard:
“A gas pipeline was damaged, which led to a gas leak and subsequent fire.”
