Odesa Struck by Russian Nighttime Assault, Causing Casualties and Widespread Damage.
Strike on Odesa
According to UATV: In the early hours of February 4, a Russian attack using strike drones hit the city of Odesa, injuring five people and destroying homes and educational facilities. The assault occurred around 3 a.m., causing extensive damage across the area. This attack is part of a wider pattern of strikes on Ukrainian port cities, which are vital to the country's economy.
The resulting explosions damaged over twenty buildings, including two kindergartens and a lyceum. The force of the blast was so powerful that it shattered windows in neighboring buildings, compounding the destruction.
Victims and Their Accounts
Survivors from the scene recounted terrifying moments during the assault. One of them, Elena Ivanovna, stated:
“Metal and debris fell on me, just rubbish and sticks. A beam pinned my leg, but thankfully it didn't break it.”
Another woman, Iryna, shared her experience:
“We can't even comprehend that this has happened to us. It's impossible to describe in words, the way it just exploded.”
This incident underscores the ongoing military conflict in Ukraine, which continues to inflict harm on civilians and critical infrastructure. The war has seen repeated attacks on urban centers far from the front lines.
Rebuilding the affected districts and providing aid to the victims will remain urgent priorities for local and national authorities. The attack serves as a stark reminder that violence and devastation continue to disrupt the lives of ordinary citizens, highlighting the need for sustained international support and efforts to secure peace in the region.
