Russia Has Destroyed 60% of Ukraine's Gas Capacities: Consequences for the Country.
According to inkorr.com: On October 3, Russian troops struck Ukraine's gas infrastructure, leading to the destruction of about 60% of the country's gas production capacities, reports Bloomberg. As a result, Ukraine has already spent 2 billion euros on gas imports for the winter period.
Call for International Support
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that Russia is actively hindering gas production in Ukraine and urged to secure funding for fuel purchases for the winter. The government has already appealed for support from G7 partners for repairing the energy system and providing financial assistance.
Financing from International Organizations
Naftogaz has received loans from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development worth 500 million euros, as well as from the European Investment Bank for 300 million euros to cover urgent expenses. Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk noted that actual gas needs for Ukraine will depend on the speed of restoring damaged facilities and the likelihood of new attacks.
The conflict in eastern Ukraine continues to significantly impact the country's energy system, requiring urgent measures to ensure gas supply for the winter and protect energy facilities from further attacks. The Ukrainian government is actively seeking assistance from global partners and working on restoring the gas infrastructure, as national energy security depends on it amid growing threats.
