Heavy defensive battles are underway in Velyka Novosilka, Donetsk region. Ukrainian defenders are experiencing significant losses both in personnel and equipment. This was reported by the spokesperson for the operational-strategic grouping of the 'Khortytsia' troops, Major Viktor Trehubov.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that their army captured the village of Velyka Novosilka in Donetsk region. However, the Armed Forces of Ukraine denied this information and assured that the Ukrainian troops are not surrounded and the village has not been captured.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky made changes in the command of the Armed Forces. Major General Mykhailo Drapaty has been appointed head of the operational-strategic grouping of the 'Khortytsia' troops. Zelensky announced this on January 26.
