Ukrainian Army Spokesperson Accuses Russian Military Bloggers of Systematic Disinformation.
Serhiy Bratchuk's Remarks on the Information War
According to UATV: On January 17, 2023, Ukrainian Volunteer Army spokesperson Serhiy Bratchuk voiced serious concerns during an interview on the FREEDOM TV channel. He stated that Russian military bloggers are systematically distorting information, creating a vast gap between the actual situation on the ground and their reported narratives. This disinformation campaign is a core component of the ongoing hybrid warfare against Ukraine.
Bratchuk noted that the Russian army's real actions do not match its claimed successes. He pointed out that on many sections of the conventional frontline, there is virtually no combat activity. For instance, he refuted Russian claims of capturing the city of Kupiansk, stating this information is false. The spokesperson also commented on the Russian Defense Ministry's announcement about a general who received a Hero of Russia star, only to subsequently disappear from public view.
A Massive Gulf Between Reality and Propaganda
Bratchuk emphasized that the chasm between the reality at the front and the information picture presented by Russia is colossal. He added that this orchestrated information campaign occurs across all fronts, fabricating an illusion of Russian military success. Paradoxically, he observed that some Russian military bloggers, who typically report from the front, are beginning to play a role that, in a sense, inadvertently aids Ukraine by highlighting these contradictions.
Bratchuk's statement underscores the critical importance of objective information in wartime, where manipulation and propaganda can significantly sway public opinion and military morale.
Amidst the information war waged alongside military operations, such discrepancies between reality and official reports can create additional challenges for Ukraine's strategic planning and its efforts to maintain crucial international support.
