Eight New Crimean-Themed Stamps Released by Ukrposhta: What They Depict.
A Philatelic Tribute to Crimea
According to Espreso.tv: Ukraine’s national postal service, Ukrposhta, has unveiled a series of eight stamps and a matching envelope dedicated to Ukrainian Crimea. Inspired by posters from the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, the collection carries the central slogan: 'What started in Crimea will end in Crimea.' Each stamp comes with a coupon, and the artistic envelope reinforces the ongoing relevance of Crimea in contemporary Ukrainian society.
The stamp designs were created by the Crimean Tatar Resource Center in collaboration with activists from the #LiberateCrimea movement, with artwork by Andriy Yermolenko. A full sheet of stamps costs 700 hryvnias. According to Natalia Mukhina, since the start of the full-scale war, 90% of all postal issues have focused on wartime events—underscoring the significance of this particular theme.
Why the Crimean Issue Demands Attention
Crimea has been under occupation for more than 12 years, and activists stress the need to keep the topic in the public eye.
“The Crimean issue cannot be pushed to the sidelines,” said Eskender Bariev.Akhtem Seitablayev added that this release represents another step toward the peninsula’s de-occupation.
Earlier, Ukrposhta issued a stamp titled 'Crimean Bridge Encore!', marking the explosion on the bridge. This new collection continues the trend of postal products that highlight Crimea’s importance amid current events in Ukraine.
By issuing these stamps, Ukrposhta underscores the critical need for de-occupation in Ukrainian public discourse. With Russia’s occupation now exceeding a decade, such initiatives play a vital role in preserving national identity and awareness of Ukraine’s territorial integrity. They also provide a platform for activists seeking to draw attention to the consequences of the annexation.
