Russia's summer offensive has failed: General Staff summarizes losses of Russian army.
According to FREEДOM:
Failure of Russia's summer offensive
Russia's summer campaign in Ukraine did not achieve significant results, suffering heavy losses. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) summarized this offensive. Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) note that the Kremlin is trying to convince Western countries of its allegedly inevitable victory.
According to estimates from the Ukrainian General Staff, the Russian summer offensive ended in failure: the Russian army lost thousands of units of equipment and a significant part of its personnel. The Ukrainian defense forces continue to hold the front and are trying to refute the Kremlin's propaganda about victory.
'Russian troops have not gained full control over any major city. Since the beginning of the year, in senseless battles in the Kharkiv, Luhansk, and Donetsk regions, the Russians have lost almost 210 thousand of their soldiers killed and wounded, and 2174 armored combat vehicles, 1201 tanks, 7303 artillery systems, and 157 multiple launch rocket systems have been destroyed or damaged,' the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.
'Here Gerasimov is forced to regroup troops again, change timelines, goals, tasks, and calculations of forces and means because the forces and means allocated for the offensive operation have, in general, been burnt in the attempts to break through Ukraine's defenses. Without regrouping forces, they will not succeed,' commented the head of military programs at the Globalistics Center 'Strategy XXI' Pavlo Lakiychuk.
Further actions of the Russian military leadership
Despite significant losses, the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Federation Gerasimov stated that the army will continue the offensive. He claims that the initiative lies with the Russian troops, trying to explain the lack of capture of significant territories by losses on the Ukrainian side. No data on enemy losses is provided.
'We are not only conducting mop-up operations but also small counter-offensives in these sectors. The enemy cannot develop offensive operations there. They are trying to activate from the northeast and southwest of Pokrovsk. For several days, there were attempts at advancement, but in fact, they had no success. There are small variable movements on our side, and on theirs, but they suffer the greatest losses,' said the general of the Ukrainian army, the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine (2005-2010) Mykola Malomuzh.
Actions of Western partners
The Russian leadership is trying to manipulate facts, demonstrating an illusory advantage to Ukraine's partners. General Gerasimov incorrectly reports captured territories, claiming that since the beginning of the year, 3.5 thousand kilometers have been captured, while the real figures are significantly lower. The Minister of Defense also speaks of large captures, but experts record much more modest data.
'The Kremlin is apparently trying to use a large volume of quantitative data to create a false impression of a rapid advance of Russian troops on the battlefield. The Kremlin is trying to convince the West that Russia will inevitably achieve its military objectives on the battlefield, so Ukraine should concede to Russian demands, and thus the West should stop supporting it,' ISW's report states.
However, Western partners are not falling for Russian provocations and are actively supporting the AFU. Ukraine may receive up to 3.5 thousand ERAM missiles along with equipment worth 825 million dollars. The relevant decision was made by the US security and defense agency.
'We are providing capabilities for deeper strikes, and the Ukrainians are likely to use them,' said the US ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker.
In addition to American aid, the PURL program has started, within which NATO countries and Canada jointly procure weapons from the US for Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that this initiative has already raised 1.5 billion dollars for defense support.
