Kherson Shelling on March 1

According to UATV: Four people were killed and another civilian was wounded in Russian artillery attacks on the city of Kherson on March 1. The strikes, which targeted the Korabelnyi district, occurred in two waves: one at 10:00 in the morning and another at 13:20 in the afternoon. This attack is part of a broader pattern of intensified assaults on Ukrainian cities, particularly in the south. Two individuals died at the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.

Among the victims were two elderly women who were near the entrance to a residential building. The Kherson Regional Military Administration reported:

"Two elderly women who were near the entrance of a house died as a result of the Russian shelling. Two other residents—an 85-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man—suffered blast injuries and multiple shrapnel wounds to the head and torso. An ambulance took them to the hospital in serious condition. It was later reported that the victims died in the hospital."

In addition, a 58-year-old man sustained a head injury and was hospitalized. In a separate escalation of military activity, Russian forces launched 123 drones against Ukraine overnight on March 1.

Conflict Escalation

This shelling reflects a wider trend of escalating conflict in Ukraine, especially in its southern regions. Kherson, which has endured significant suffering throughout the war, has once again come under attack, highlighting the severe security challenges facing the civilian population. The increase in artillery bombardments and the use of drone swarms underscores the intensity of the fighting and its devastating impact on local communities, who continue to bear the brunt of the war's consequences.
